Quick Refresher on Colorado Marijuana Laws

April 20th, AKA 420 is a great day for a “Quick Refresher” on Colorado Marijuana Laws. You can always use a little touching up and you might learn something new.

Heads up we will be strongly enforcing NO PUBLIC CONSUMPTION in our parking lot, in your cars, in public! Ask our bud tenders for more information on how to consume legally today. Let’s not rune 420 for everyone!! We will give you 1 WARNING for any sign or suspicion of public consumption ⚠️. Your second will be by the town cops Officer Compos 👮🏽‍♂️ and officer Olga👮🏽‍♀️ (Sorry I totally butchered their names). If you also seem impaired and don’t have a driver we may ask you to stay where u are for awhile. A few bad apples can give our industry a bad name and we might not get a 420 next year if people act like drunk disrespectful idiots 🤪

My website has a lot of typos in it. We are in the process of cleaning it up. Plus we will be posting more often and keeping everything up to date! 💚

Basics Rule:

  • You must be over 21 (never give or buy it for a minor)!!
  • In order to purchase, possess or use retail marijuana in Colorado, you must have a valid ID proving you’re 21 or older. It’s that simple.

  • Use it on private property, not public space
  • Using marijuana (smoking, eating or vaping) isn’t allowed in public places!!

  • So where can you use it? Marijuana use is legal within the confines of private property, Legal dab lounges/clubs, and 420 friendly hotels in your room and designated areas. Just keep in mind that property owners, landlords, and rental companies can ban the use and possession of marijuana on the premises.

  • Federal land is under federal law
  • Marijuana is legal by state of Colorado law. Federally? Not so much. If you’re on federal land, such as a national park or a national forest, you can’t even have it in your possession.

  • Keep it in Colorado
  • It’s illegal to leave Colorado with any marijuana products. Additionally, Denver International Airport has banned the possession of marijuana products on its property. Mailing marijuana from Colorado is also illegal.

  • Don’t drive high
  • It’s illegal to drive under the influence of marijuana. If you get caught, you could be charged with a DUI. Under Colorado marijuana driving laws, you can’t drive if you have five nanograms or more of THC in your system. As a rule of thumb, if you’re smoking, wait at least six hours before driving. If you’re ingesting, wait at least eight.

  • Keep it sealed in your car
  • If you have marijuana in your car, make sure it’s sealed and unused. It’s illegal to open and use any marijuana in a vehicle. That goes for both the passenger and the driver. Stay legal and safe—keep it sealed.

  • You can only buy and hold so much at a time
  • Adults over the age of 21 can purchase and possess up to one ounce of marijuana.

  • Only buy from a licensed Colorado dispensary
  • Licensed retail locations are the only legal place to buy weed in Colorado. It’s illegal for any individual to sell marijuana without a state and local marijuana business license. It’s also illegal to buy marijuana from an unlicensed individual.

  • There’s a limit to how much you can grow
  • Coloradans can grow marijuana for personal use. Up to six plants are allowed per Colorado resident over the age of 21, with as many as three plants flowering at one time. Plants must be grown in an enclosed, locked location. Beginning January 1, 2018, all residences will be limited to a maximum of 12 plants unless certain requirements are met. Be sure to check your local laws for specific details.

  • Only medical patients can buy medical marijuana in Colorado
  • Patients with qualifying debilitating medical conditions can receive a registry identification card for legal access to medical marijuana. Cards are available to Colorado residents and valid only in Colorado. See Colorado medical marijuana license information.

  • Don’t share marijuana with those under 21
  • It’s a felony to give or share retail marijuana with someone younger than 21 years old. This includes family members and friends.

  • If pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor! At the 420 Green Genie we will not sell to anyone who is pregnant!!
  • There is no known safe amount of marijuana use while pregnant or breastfeeding.
